-Problem-solving and estimation in real-world contexts using "3 act-math"
- building understanding of division through real-world connections
- building division strategies for numbers up to 3 digit by 1 digit division, with and without remainders. Some of the strategies we will be exploring include:
- using manipulatives
- skip counting
- decomposing numbers
- long division
- relating division to arrays
- using fact families
Les sciences
- What are the states and matter, their properties and their connection to our daily lives?
- Using the scientific method to investigate properties of matter including PH, concentration and solubility
- How has immigration to Canada changed over time?
- What are some of the "push" and "pull" factors that have lead to immigration in Canada?
- What are some of the challenges faced by immigrants?
- How do immigration and multiculturalism shape Canadian society and identity?
Language Arts
-Exploring French music through "manie musicale"
- Identifying story elements in fiction texts
- Focusing on ideas, sequencing and word choice in creative and personal writing as well as revision and editing strategies
- Defining expectations for grade 4 and 5 writing. Each student has chosen 2 areas/aspects of their writing that they are wanting to focus on this term.
- Focus on comprehension, accuracy, fluency and expanding vocabulary with just-right fiction books in French.
- Practicing French oral language skills across all subjects through discussions and games

- Honour and respect - How do we show it?
- The golden rule vs. the platinum rule - how can we treat others the way THEY want to be treated?
- "What would you do?" discussion scenarios. Sharing strategies to deal with conflicts and challenges at school.
- Focus on COLLABORATION - What does it look like, sound like and feel like?
- Brick brain (fixed mindset) vs. Bubble Gum Brain (growth mindset)
- Why are we learning French and how we can we improve our skills?
- Developing our vision of how we want our classroom to be
